In 2022, WaterAid launched a bold new global strategy, setting ambitious targets to be achieved by 2032. The organisation aims to provide sustainable, safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services to an additional 400 million people and to mobilise an extra $15 billion annually for WASH solutions in low- and middle-income countries. Gender equality lies at the heart of this strategy, driving our approaches and actions, and reinforcing our commitment to transformative initiatives that foster equality in water, sanitation, hygiene, and beyond.

In 2022-2023, WaterAid’s West Africa programme countries subsequently developed and rolled out their national strategies, all with a clear ambition to move towards a gender-transformative approach across their plans and programmes. Recognising the unique challenges in the region—marked by security concerns, socio-political instability, and diverse socio-cultural contexts—WaterAid West Africa aims to assess and deepen the understanding and application of gender, equality and inclusion practices within its programme and advocacy objectives. Furthermore, we aim to evaluate our current skills and capacity to achieve this, establishing a baseline to guide our efforts in upskilling and equipping our teams with the essential knowledge to drive lasting, inclusive change.

WaterAid West Africa is recruiting a consultant or team of consultants to assess and programmesr programme effectiveness and staff capacity in delivering transformational programmes on gender, equality, and inclusion.
