Conservation International
National Senior Manager - Gender and Safeguards

Description
Conservation South Africa is committed to the economic inclusion and empowerment of women, youth, and LGBTQ+ community members in three climate-vulnerable communities in rural South Africa. We are undertaking a bold initiative to increase the economic empowerment and financial inclusions of the target groups (Women, Youth and LGBTQ+) in rural communities by supporting and promoting their access to, and decision-making authority over, communal grazing land, livestock, and entrepreneurship opportunities.
The Gender and Economic Inclusion Manager will work closely with existing teams to provide targeted support on addressing gender and economic inclusion in all aspects of CSA’s work – but with a particular focus on our Jobs 4 Nature, Africa Rangelands, and Climate Positive Planning and Finance portfolios. The position will be a blended role which addresses core technical gender work (for example safeguards, DEI, and gender training), project management support for all gender-specific grants and the development of technical support materials for ensuring the economic inclusion of women, youth and members of the LGTBQ+ community in all aspects of our work. The position will also be responsible for monitoring and evaluation related to gender and economic inclusion for priority organizational projects. The Manager will support the development of high-quality gender and safeguard plans and project documents, ensuring projects comply with CSA’s gender and safeguard policies and requirements to meet project targets. The position will support the development of outreach and training materials, conduct online and in-person safeguard training, and collect, analyze, and present gender and safeguards performance data.
CSA has a well-established safeguards system that will be applied to this project. The Gender and Economic Inclusion Manager will support the implementation, management, and capacity building of CI’s Gender and Safeguard Systems at the project level. Comprised of policies, standards and procedures, guidance, capacity-building processes, and a grievance redress mechanism, CI’s Safeguard System is designed to avoid or mitigate adverse environmental and social impacts in projects.
