Firelight Foundation
Director of Programs and Learning

Description
Firelight Foundation is looking for a bold, strategic leader to guide their grantmaking, learning, and programme work across Eastern and Southern Africa. The focus? Supporting community-based organisations to drive change on their own terms – not those set from outside.
This is about reimagining philanthropy:
➡️ Listening to communities, not imposing solutions
➡️ Prioritising learning that reflects community-defined impact
➡️ Advancing long-term systems change, not short-term wins
The Director will shape strategy, strengthen partnerships, lead a brilliant team, and advocate for more equitable funding models – all while keeping children and youth at the centre.I’ve long admired Firelight’s commitment to participatory philanthropy – and this is a rare opportunity to join them at a time of growing momentum.
Think you have what it takes but not sure you check every box? Research shows that while men apply to roles when they meet an average of 60% of the criteria, women often only apply when they meet every requirement. If you are hesitating, apply!
